Hometown Storage has outdoor parking for work trucks, utility trailers, and equipment trailers, behind a keypad gate on a fully fenced property in Oakwood, GA. The gate opens at 5am, so you can hitch up and be on a job site before most offices open.

Trailer and truck parking for small businesses at Hometown Storage in Oakwood GA

We're a locally owned facility at 3625 McEver Rd, near Mundy Mill and a short drive from Gainesville and Lake Lanier. Many of our parking customers are contractors, landscapers, and small business owners who've simply run out of room at home. Here's how parking works here, what size space you need, and how to keep your rig secure while it sits.

Can you park a work truck or trailer at Hometown Storage?

Yes. Our outdoor parking spaces take work trucks, utility and equipment trailers, and enclosed cargo trailers, along with boats and RVs.

Parking is rented month to month, the same as our storage units. You get your own gate code, and your space sits inside the same fence and camera coverage as the rest of the facility. If you're parking a boat or a camper instead of a work rig, our guide to boat and RV storage near Lake Lanier covers that side.

Who uses trailer parking in Oakwood?

Mostly people whose work rides on a trailer. Landscaping crews keep mowers and blowers strapped to an open trailer. Pressure washing and painting businesses keep a rig set up and ready to roll. Electricians, plumbers, and HVAC techs park a second work truck. Weekend haulers keep a utility trailer they only pull a few times a month.

What they share is a driveway that's turned into a parking lot. A 16 or 20 foot trailer takes up most of a two-car driveway, and many neighborhoods around Oakwood and Gainesville have HOA rules about trailers and commercial vehicles parked in view. Moving the rig a few minutes down the road keeps the peace at home and puts your equipment behind a gate instead of at the curb.

What size parking space do you need for a trailer?

Measure the full length, including the tongue, and match it to the space. Our parking spaces run roughly 21 to 25 feet long, which fits most single-axle and tandem utility trailers, or a full-size work truck on its own.

A truck and trailer hitched together usually runs well past 30 feet, which is more than one space. Most customers park the trailer here and drive the truck home, or rent a second space for the truck. Our spaces are uncovered and outdoors, so a trailer cover or a tarp on loose gear helps through a wet Georgia winter.

Give us a call with your trailer's length and whether you'll be backing it in, and we'll match you to the right spot.

Why does a 5am gate time matter for contractors?

Because most job sites start early. The gate opens at 5am and closes at midnight, seven days a week, so you can grab the trailer on your way to a 7am start and drop it back after a late day.

Your code works any time inside those hours, with no office visit needed. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, Saturday from 9am to 1pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm, for paperwork, questions, and U-Haul pickups. Between midnight and 5am the gate stays closed, while the cameras keep recording.

How is a parked trailer protected at Hometown Storage?

The same way our storage units are: a fully fenced property, a keypad gate that opens with your own code, cameras recording 24/7, and a manager on site during office hours. Our post on self storage security in Oakwood walks through each of those layers.

There's also plenty you can do on your end. Put a coupler lock on the trailer tongue, and add a wheel lock if the trailer will sit for weeks at a time. If equipment stays on an open trailer, chain it to the frame and lock it. Take tools, tablets, and paperwork out of the truck cab before you leave. Small, expensive gear like trimmers, blowers, and power tools is safer in a locked unit than on an open deck.

Can you keep tools and equipment in a unit next to your trailer?

Yes, and plenty of contractors pair the two. Park the trailer in a parking space, then rent a drive-up unit for the hand tools, ladders, materials, and small equipment that shouldn't sit out in the open.

Every unit at Hometown Storage is on the ground floor, and our drive-up units let you pull right up to the door, load, and lock up. A 10x10 drive-up holds a good amount of tools and materials, and a 10x15 gives room for shelving along the walls. Each new rental comes with a free disc lock.

If you're storing inventory, records, or supplies rather than gear for the road, our post on business storage in Oakwood covers what businesses keep in a unit. For how drive-up units work day to day, see the benefits of drive-up self storage.

Should you park your trailer for the winter?

If your work slows when the grass stops growing, it can make sense. Across northeast Georgia the first freeze usually arrives between mid October and early November, and mowing season around Gainesville and Oakwood winds down soon after.

Since parking is month to month, you can park a trailer for the slow months and stop when spring work picks up. Before it sits, clear out leaves and clippings, check the tire pressure, add fuel stabilizer to mowers and small engines, and cover anything that stays on the deck. Then you're ready to hitch up in March instead of spending the first week of the season on repairs.

Do you need insurance for a trailer parked at a storage facility?

Yes, keep your own coverage in place. The facility's insurance covers the property itself, not your truck, your trailer, or the equipment on it.

Check with your commercial auto or business insurance agent that the vehicle and anything stored on it are covered while parked off site. If you're also renting a unit, our post on the benefits of tenant insurance explains how coverage works for what's inside.

What if you need to rent a trailer instead of park one?

We can help with that too. Hometown Storage is a U-Haul dealer, so you can rent a truck, a trailer, or towing equipment right from our office for a one-time haul.

Parking is for a trailer you already own. If you only need one for a weekend project or a move, our post on U-Haul rentals in Oakwood covers sizes and how to reserve.

How do you rent a parking space at Hometown Storage?

Call us at (470) 703-0223, stop by during office hours, or reserve online. Have the length of your truck or trailer handy so we can match you to a space.

We opened in July 2025 as a new, locally owned facility with climate-controlled and drive-up units, vehicle parking, and U-Haul rentals on site. Standard rates on our storage units carry a 12-month rate guarantee, and everything is month to month. If you'd like to see the property first, come by and we'll walk you through it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I park a work trailer at Hometown Storage in Oakwood, GA? Yes. We have outdoor parking spaces for utility trailers, equipment trailers, enclosed cargo trailers, and work trucks, as well as boats and RVs. Parking is month to month, behind the same keypad gate and fence as our storage units, and covered by cameras that record 24/7.

What hours can I get to my trailer? The gate is open from 5am to midnight, seven days a week, and your personal code works any time in that window. That early opening lets you pick up a trailer before a morning job. The gate stays closed from midnight to 5am. Office hours for questions and paperwork are Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm, and Sunday 12pm to 4pm.

Are the parking spaces covered? No. Our parking spaces are uncovered outdoor spaces. A fitted cover for your trailer or equipment, or a locked drive-up unit for smaller gear, protects your things from rain and sun while they're parked.

Can I park my truck and trailer together in one space? Usually not. Our spaces run roughly 21 to 25 feet long, and a truck hitched to a trailer typically runs well past 30 feet. Most customers park the trailer and take the truck home, or rent a second space for the truck. Call with your measurements and we'll help you work out the best setup.

Do I need a long-term contract for trailer parking? No. Parking is rented month to month, so you can park for a busy season, a slow season, or as long as you need. That works well for landscapers who want the trailer off the driveway through the winter.

Is my trailer insured while it's parked at Hometown Storage? Not by us. The facility's insurance covers the property, not your vehicles or equipment. Confirm with your commercial auto or business insurance agent that your truck, trailer, and anything stored on them are covered while parked off site.
